Project: A novel method of quantifying lateralized fine motor impairment in Parkinson’s Disease

Dr. Dexheimer is an assistant professor and occupational therapist at Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also the director of VCU’s NERDD Lab (Novel Environments for Reducing Disability & Dysfunction). Dr. Dexheimer earned her PhD in Kinesiology from Pennsylvania State University. She is also a National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Fellow and has earned a Graduate Certificate in Translational Science from the Pennsylvania State University Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI). Prior to her PhD, she earned a doctorate in Occupational Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis, MO and a bachelor’s degree in Movement and Exercise Science from the University of Northern Iowa.  Dr. Dexheimer’s research interests surround the basic mechanisms underlying sensorimotor integration and motor control.  She is also interested in understanding how these mechanisms can inform neurorehabilitation for individuals with various neurological disorders.  In her free time, Dr. Dexheimer enjoys cooking, woodworking, and spending time with her family and friends.
