In addition to extending services to a high rate of patients on Medicaid, the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab provides direct financial assistance to families in need through the Charity Care Fund. The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab’s Charity Care Fund enables patients to receive the most comprehensive rehabilitative care possible despite individual financial circumstances. The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab provides charity care to several thousand patients every year, including children.
Charity Care gives patients access to the complete range of services for inpatient, outpatient, and day rehabilitation services, including prosthetic limbs and orthotic braces; physical, occupational, and recreational therapy; vocational rehabilitation services; and assistive technology solutions. Through the use of assistive technology, augmentative communication devices are created for patients who cannot speak, and environmental controls are devised that enable patients to use household devices such as telephones, light switches, and computers.
