Share Your Experience Flying with a Disability

Objective

Researchers at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Northwestern University, and Indiana University are conducting two research studies to explore the air travel experiences of people with physical disabilities. The aim is to understand the challenges people with physical disabilities face during air travel, identify factors that could improve air travel, and help airlines and airports become more inclusive and accessible. 

Research Activity 

  • Study 1 – You will be asked to attend a one-hour focus group in person or online.
  • Study 2 – You will be asked to take and share photographs of your experiences while flying and describe them in an interview after. 

Who Can Participate

You may be eligible to participate if you: 

  • Are 18 years old or older
  • Live in the United States
  • Self-identify as having a physical disability or mobility impairment that requires physical assistance from another person or adaptive equipment like a wheelchair, walker, or cane
  • Do not have cognitive, psychiatric or medical conditions that make you unable to share your experiences
  • Have flown in the last two years
  • Speak English
  • Have access to internet-based communication services like Zoom
