Neurostimulation for the Treatment of Post-Stroke Aphasia

Objective

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is conducting a research study to understand if non-invasive brain stimulation paired with a speech and language therapy task is an effective form of treatment for post-stroke aphasia.

If you should qualify, you will attend:

  • 3-4 baseline visits, including an MRI
  • 10 one-hour therapy sessions, daily for 2 weeks
  • 3 follow-up visits (immediately, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks after therapy)

During the therapy sessions, you will wear a cap on your head and receive safe brain stimulation while completing a therapy naming task.

Who Can Participate

  • Diagnosis of aphasia from a single stroke
  • At least 6-months post stroke 
    onset
  • 18 to 80 years old
  • Right-handed
  • Fluent in English
  • MRI safe

Compensation

Compensation is provided.
