Spaced Retrieval Training: A Cognitive Strategy for Allied Health
Description: Patients that exhibit memory impairment can be challenging, especially when rehabilitation professionals are trying to teach them something new. This webinar focuses on spaced retrieval training as a key strategy that can be used to support carryover of information and techniques in PT, OT and SLP (e.g. safe transfer sequence, dressing training, compensatory swallowing strategies.) Spaced retrieval can be used with a variety of populations including stroke, traumatic brain injury and dementia.
Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify different areas in the brain responsible for memory
- Discuss the different types of memory
- Define space retrieval and error-less learning
- Outline the use of spaced retrieval training in a variety of settings and in different patient populations
