DESCRIPTION
This webinar is designed for allied health and neurorehabilitation professionals seeking to strengthen their cultural foundations in clinical practice and is reinforced by professional standards. Participants will explore the evolution of cultural frameworks, from early models of cultural competence toward more responsive and reflexive approaches, including cultural humility. Content is directly applicable to patient care interactions and extends to mentoring relationships with students, supervisees and emerging clinicians.

LEARNER OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Define cultural competence, responsiveness and humility, per Tervalon and Murray-Garcia’s foundational framework.
  2. Identify how professional organization standards address cultural competence and implicit bias considering the extent to which cultural humility is (or is not) reflected in existing professional standards.
  3. Apply at least one pillar of cultural humility to clinical situations across assessment, treatment planning and/or patient education.
  4. Describe how cultural humility can be utilized in supervisory and mentoring relationships, contrasting traditional supervision models with anti-oppressive models.
