DESCRIPTION
Upper extremity serial casting is an intervention used to manage soft tissue contractures. It is an advanced clinical skill that requires additional training to identify appropriate patients and understand the potential outcomes for casting. This webinar will give an overview of the following topics: casting goals, casting process including review of precautions and ideas for orthotics post-casting that are important to consider when deciding to serial cast. Learners will be introduced to a decision-making tool to assist in selecting appropriate situations for this intervention and outline the necessary steps to ensure safety, carryover and long-term effects. Both adult and pediatric cases will be highlighted throughout the webinar. This webinar is not intended to provide competency for hands-on skill completion in a clinical setting but is intended to provide an introduction to the world of serial casting.
