About Me

In his role at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Dr. David Zembower oversees research and product development collaborations with external organizations, particularly commercial partners. His current interests include the application of wearable technologies and digital health solutions for the physical rehabilitation markets. He also leads the organization’s technology transfer efforts, focused on developing commercialization strategies for the unique discoveries that come out of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab’s research and clinical operations. Additionally, he oversees therapeutic and medical device clinical trials that the hospital conducts on behalf of commercial sponsors. Dr. Zembower spent the first half of his career in the biotechnology industry where he worked in new drug discovery and business development. Then, he oversaw the business and research operations for the Cardiovascular Research Institute at Northwestern University. He also co-founded a start-up biotechnology company, Rhythmos Therapeutics, Inc., focused on repurposing abandoned pharmaceutical assets as new agents to treat heart rhythm disorders. Dr. Zembower holds a B.S. from the University of Central Florida; a Ph.D. from the Georgia Institute of Technology; and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
