Pediatric Cancer Rehabilitation
Through expert rehabilitation and specialized cancer care, we help children achieve the best-possible outcomes — preserving function, maximizing quality of life and supporting long-term health.
At Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, we support children and adolescents with cancer through our pediatric cancer rehabilitation program. Our goal is to minimize the effects of cancer on the brain and body. Through rehabilitation, we intervene to prevent or reduce the effects of cancer and cancer-related treatments — helping children to maintain their strength, balance, energy levels, cognitive skills and movement.
By identifying a child’s rehabilitation needs early in their cancer journey, we can provide timely referrals to therapy (physical, occupational and speech) and access to specialists, while addressing equipment or bracing needs. We also can identify children at risk for common mobility and cognitive impairments related to cancer to better prepare them for the future.
