About Me

David Weiss, MD, is Medical Director of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital. In 2019, UChicago Medicine and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab joined forces to bring the services and expertise of the premier rehabilitation hospital to patients of the academic health system. As part of this collaboration, Shirley Ryan AbilityLab leads clinical management of inpatient rehabilitation services at Ingalls under Dr. Weiss’ direction.

Dr. Weiss brings more than 25 years of experience in rehabilitation care and research for inpatients with stroke and myofascial pain syndrome. He is board-certified in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. Additionally, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation for University of Chicago.

He currently serves as a Fellow for the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the Physiatric Association of Spine, Sports and Occupational Rehabilitation. He is a Member of the American College of Sports Medicine, and is past President of the Illinois Society of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. He serves as a manuscript reviewer for the PM&R Journal and the Journal of Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases. He is head of the Illinois medical staff for USA Track & Field and is Team Physician for U.S. Soccer.

Dr. Weiss earned his Doctor of Medicine from University of Michigan. He completed his residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
