Congratulations are in order to Dr. Debbie Lee, who received a 1st place Sarah Baskin Research Award for her presentation today! Dr. Lee, along with other fellows and residents at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, conducted remote Zoom presentations today (June 10th, 2020) for this annual tradition showcasing residents’ and fellows’ scientific contributions at SRALab and Feinberg School of Medicine.

Northwestern PM&R tweeted a celebratory post for the winners and all presenters at the 2020 Sarah Baskin Research Day:

Dr. Lee presented work she performed in the Franz Lab of Regenerative Neurorehabilition, using different cell lines of human stem cell-derived neurons to model neurotrauma in vitro. She found that, as in human patient populations, different patient’s neurons showed distinctive and disparate outcome trajectories in response to identical trauma. These findings highlight the need for personalized and specific approaches to neurotrauma patients, and for careful attention to genetic factors when conducting neurotrauma research.
