Effective 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (the “Affordable Care Act”) requires hospitals such as the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) to conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (“CHNA” or “Assessment”) every three years.

In addition, each hospital is to develop an Implementation Strategy (“Strategy”) to meet the significant community health needs identified through the CHNA, taking into account input from persons who represent the broad interests of the community served by the hospital facility.
