Peer Empowerment and Navigational Support

Objective

We are conducting a research study on the effectiveness of a remote-delivered peer navigator intervention for adults with new disabilities returning to community living. 

Peer Navigators (PNs) are people with disabilities with specialized training to support community living goals.

What's involved?

  • All study activities will take place remotely by phone or internet.
  • Participants will be randomly assigned to either the study intervention which includes monthly meetings with a PN or, to the control group which includes usual care.
  • All participants will complete assessments, an exit interview, and receive monthly newsletters with practical information on community living.
  • Study duration is approximately one year

Who Can Participate

  • Adults 18 years of age or older
  • Have onset of a new neurological physical disability in the past year
  • Hospitalized due to the new disability within the last 12 months
  • Have reliable access to the internet through a smartphone or computer
  • Able to speak and read English and provide informed consent

Compensation

Participants will be compensated for their participation.
