On May 26, NBC 5 Chicago aired a report on Roberto Rodriguez from Waukegan, who was discharged from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab's 19th Floor Nerve, Muscle & Bone Innovation Center.

Roberto was hospitalized with severe COVID-19 in July 2020, survived on a ventilator for more than four months, and had a double lung replacement on Thanksgiving Day.

After five months of undergoing intensive therapy at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, Roberto was strong enough to hug his wife, Silvia, and greet his family outside the flagship hospital in an emotional reunion at his discharge.

The story featured insights from Matthew Oswald, MD, attending physician.

"Our entire team is inspired by his motivation, his drive to make progress, as well as the support he has from his family to help him along the way," Dr. Oswald said.
