About Me

Hongkai is a neuroscience PhD candidate in the NUIN program at Northwestern University. He has a background of both medicine and neuroscience and he, working with Dr Colin Franz and Dr John Rogers, focuses on phrenic nerve injury and regeneration. His goal is to become a physician-scientist in PM&R.

Hongkai is interested in biomedical mechanisms of neuropsychiatric diseases.

Regenerative Neurorehabilitation Laboratory

This lab uses a combination of molecular, biochemical, and electrophysiological assays to study axon regeneration and motor neuron disease with a priority on human preclinical models such as iPSC-neurons.
