DESCRIPTION
The neurodegenerative conditions known as atypical parkinsonisms are often misdiagnosed as Parkinson's disease (PD), particularly at early disease stages. This can lead to delays in diagnosis, impact clinical management and can make it difficult to estimate prognosis. The atypical parkinsonisms include progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), corticobasal syndrome (CBS) and multiple system atrophy (MSA). Interdisciplinary rehabilitation is crucial for education, symptom management and support for optimizing quality of life for patients and their care. This webinar will provide a comprehensive overview of these conditions and an introduction on strategies to differentiate between them from the perspective of an academic movement disorders specialist. Interdisciplinary rehabilitation experts will present the roles of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology. This includes discussions on referral timelines, approaches to assessment and treatment, key education topics and how differential diagnosis contributes to individualized plans of care.

LEARNER OUTCOMES
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Define key symptoms and differential characteristics of PSP, CBS and MSA, as compared to PD
  2. Describe the role of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology in the assessment, management and education of PSP, CBS and MSA

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION
Participants will be present during the live webinar in its entirety and complete an attendance verification and feedback survey in the Academy Learning Portal within one month of the live air date.
