Swallowing 101: Dysphagia for Non-SLPs

Description: Swallowing is a highly complex skill that can be compromised by neurological or structural changes to the mechanism. The resulting impairment, dysphagia, is common in rehab and aging populations. To best care for our patients and maximize rehab potential, it is imperative that rehabilitation staff have an understanding of dysphagia. This course discusses normal and disordered swallowing, populations at risk for swallowing impairments, and the physical and social consequences of dysphagia. The crucial role of non-SLPs in the management of dysphagia is discussed.
