Stroke survivors have two options for rehabilitation. They can choose either an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, like Shirley Ryan AbilityLab or a Skilled Nursing Facility (sub-acute rehabilitation). It’s a big decision and the difference in outcomes can be huge.

At a Skilled Nursing Facility (sub-acute rehab), a physician is required to evaluate the patient within 14 days of admittance. At an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, a physician is required to evaluate you the very first day you arrive.

At a Skilled Nursing Facility, a registered nurse is required to be available only 8 hours a day. At an Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility, a registered nurse is required to be available 24 hours a day.
