The opportunities I had to practice my profession in a variety of settings early in my career (education, research, acute care, long-term care, home health, outpatient) were instrumental in leading me to where my passion really lies - the interpersonal interaction in direct patient care. Nothing excites me more as a professional than empowering chronically hurting individuals and aiding people to move again, or to move more. In short, I find joy in seeing my patients get measurably better in ways that are meaningful to them. In addition to clinical practice, I also teach in the community on a wide variety of topics, in continuing professional education courses, and in a web-based graduate-level program on neurological physical therapy topics. In the past, I have collaborated with scientific investigators in the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago for research on spasticity in spinal cord injury and the use of robotic technology for balance and gait retraining in people with neurological disorders.
