Welcome Colin Franz and the Laboratory of Regenerative Neuro-Rehabilitation

Body

Colin Franz is a physician-scientist with expertise in neuromuscular medicine, rehabilitation, gene therapy, and disease modeling with induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). His laboratory employs a combination of molecular, bioengineering and electrophysiological approaches to study axon regeneration and motor neuron disease with a particular emphasis on human iPSC-derived neuron models in addition to more traditional small animal models of disease. They aim to corroborate mechanistic and therapeutic finding in both human in vitro models and rodent in vivo models in order to determine priorities for clinical translational. Recent projects from his lab have focused on drug re-purposing to enhance peripheral nerve repair as well as patient specific factors that influence rehabilitation outcomes after neurotrauma.

Dr. Franz is the newest recruit to the Center for Translational Biomedicine.
