Objective

  1. Determine if forces created by robots can help improve arm function.
  2. Characterize typical arm movement of healthy individuals using a robot
  3. Characterize arm movement of individuals with impairment caused by stroke using a robot

Who Can Participate

Individuals who have had a stroke:

Inclusion Criteria:

  1. At least 8 months post stroke
  2. Only 1 stroke
  3. Motor impairment in Arm/hand

Exclusion Criteria:

  1. Bilateral motor impairment
  2. Severe sensory loss in the arm/hand
  3. Severe Aphasia
  4. Severe spasticity
  5. Severe cognitive deficit

 

Healthy Individuals:

Inclusion criteria:

  1. No history of stroke

Exclusion criteria:

  1. Neurological or other disease/impairment that affects arm movement
  2. Expertise in arm movement (i.e. professional athlete)
