Interactive Demonstrations, Education, Activities, and Support for Mental Health in Parkinson’s Disease

IRB Protocol Number STU00213973

Douglas Merkitch

This program, directed by Dr. Jennifer G. Goldman and supported by a Parkinson’s Foundation 2020 Community Grant, will focus on ways for you to increase your knowledge about mental health topics in Parkinson’s disease (PD) and to develop proactive strategies to enhance your mental well-being.

The program will consist of 4 virtual sessions where we will explore several topics related to mental health and share tools, tips, and resources in an interactive and engaging format.

This program also includes an optional research part that will involve filling out online surveys, including knowledge questions, PD-related and caregiver-related scales, and program feedback and evaluations.

This program aims to:

  • Increase awareness of and knowledge about mental health issues in PD.
  • Provide education and resources to develop personal strategies for being proactive about mental health and to address issues, if present.
  • Improve the quality of life and self-efficacy, decrease caregiver burden, and empower both people with PD and their care partners regarding mental health topics.
