Live Webinar Date and Time: Wednesday, October 4, 2023. 12:00-1:00pm CT

Instructor:

Thomas Fisher, Jr., MD, MPH
ER physician at The University of Chicago Medical Center and  Author of “The Emergency: A Year of Healing and Heartbreak in a Chicago ER”

Webinar Title and Description: Optimism in the Face of Inequity - There have been countless studies showing how health inequity can lead to poor medical outcomes, distrust of the healthcare system, and even generational trauma. In this session, we will explore stories that illuminate how these vast bodies of literature on health inequity play out locally. Focused specifically on the Chicago neighborhoods, we will explore where and how the communities where our patients live can shape their lives and their bodies' health. We will also discuss ways that healthcare practitioners can make things better for their patients and remove moral conflict.

Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the local social determinants of health that drive patient outcomes and create risk returning home.
  2. Examine moral questions that shape physician/clinician patient relationships.
  3. Evaluate financial and policy influence on health inequity.

Successful Completion: Participants will be present during the live webinar in its entirety and complete an attendance verification and assessment in the Academy Learning Portal within one month of the live air date.
