5/17/23: Will I Get Better? Knowledge and Skills to Facilitate Difficult Conversations In Oncology

Time:  May 17, 2023, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM Central Time

Note: If you are unable to attend the live event, you will be automatically enrolled in the on-demand version.  The on-demand version will be available six weeks after the live broadcast.

Description: Patient and family inquiries about recovery arise routinely in clinical practice, yet many healthcare providers have little preparation or training for how to formulate a prognosis or deliver this information. This poses a challenge to providers, especially when managing patients who have less favorable prognostic indicators. This webinar aims to shine a light on challenges clinicians face and best practices to encourage interprofessional team reflection on this essential clinical skill as well as gaining more confidence in managing difficult conversations in healthcare.

Learner Outcomes: Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss challenges clinicians face communicating with individuals with an advanced cancer diagnosis.
  • Describe current approaches and data regarding prognostication practices within cancer rehabilitation and oncology.
  • Identify communication frameworks for engaging in difficult conversations with patients in the cancer rehabilitation setting.
  • Apply communication frameworks to common difficult conversations that occur in the cancer rehabilitation setting.
