Description: Previously described as tendinitis, advances in understanding tendinopathy have greatly changed how we conceptualize and treat these disorders.  Also, multiple individual health parameters may put patients at increased risk of having one of these disorders.  In this talk, the following will be addressed:  1. A historical perspective on tendinopathy will be given; 2. Risk factors for lower limb tendinopathies will be discussed in detail, with the focus of the talk on patellar and Achilles tendinopathy; 3. Nonoperative management will be discussed, including how use of physical therapy and injections affect outcomes.

Objectives: Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe tendinopathy and risk factors associated with it.
  • Describe physical therapy protocols for treatment of lower limb tendinopathies.
  • Describe what needle-based therapies are available to treat recalcitrant pain from tendinopathy.
